Graz Old Town

The historic Old Town of Graz and its roofscape were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999 because of their excellent state of preservation and the visibility of the architectural development in the Old Townscape. In 2010, the designation was extended to "City of Graz - Historic Center and Eggenberg Palace". This distinction is linked to the obligation to preserve the historical heritage with its ensemble of buildings that has grown since the Gothic period and to harmoniously integrate new architecture. Most of Graz's sights are located in the Old Town. This extends over the entire Innere Stadt district.

Eggenberg Castle

Eggenberg Palace in Graz is the largest and most important baroque palace complex in Styria. With its preserved, original furnishings, the extensive landscape garden and the collections of the Universalmuseum Joanneum housed in the palace, it is one of Austria's most valuable cultural assets. As the ancestral seat of the noble Eggenberg dynasty, its history of construction and furnishings illustrates the changes and patronage of what was once the most powerful dynasty in Styria. In 2010, the palace was added to the existing UNESCO World Heritage City of Graz-Historical Center in an extension.

AUSTER / Wellness Oasis

Relaxation and recuperation are promised by the 2,000 m² sauna area of the Graz Auster wellness spa, which extends over 2 floors. Relaxation pools, brine pools, whirlpools, salt baths, steam baths, spacious relaxation zones as well as guided special infusions are included in the wellness bath. The highlight offers the outside sauna pearl where Wellness guests profit above all from sufficient place and with Aufgüssen with music completely to switch off can. Refreshment is provided afterwards by cold showers and drinks, as well as snacks at the sauna bar.

FH - Joanneum

The FH Joanneum (proper spelling: FH JOANNEUM) is a university of applied sciences in Austria with 4700 students, about 300 full-time teachers as well as scientific staff and about 960 lecturers. It offers degree programs with a focus on economics, technology, health sciences and social sciences at three locations in Graz, Kapfenberg and Bad Gleichenberg in Styria and is one of three universities of applied sciences in Austria that do not charge tuition fees.

Mur island

Island or ship? It's not that easy to classify the extravagant steel construction by US artist Vito Acconci. The Murinsel Graz was commissioned on the occasion of the Capital of Culture Year 2003. What is certain is that it represents a link between the river and the city, and that it is a wonderful place to drink a coffee or enjoy a cocktail. While the Mur bubbles merrily by on the left and right, on the Murinsel one experiences a completely new cityscape of Graz. The island has brought the Mur back to the people of Graz. Until a few years ago, the river was polluted by sewage. So it hardly mattered that the Mur had dug itself a good 12 meters deeper into its bed after its regulation in the 19th century. Now the river, which separates and connects Graz, has a good water quality again, has become inviting.

Schlossberg

In the middle of the city of Graz rises Schlossberg which is beautifully covered in forest, just a few minutes walk from the main square. Once a castle was enthroned up there on a rocky outcrop. All that remains is the bell tower with the bell "Liesl" and the clock tower, today the city's landmark. Children and parents climb the Schlossberg in Graz either via the 260 steps of the Schlossberg staircase or quite comfortably with the glass Schlossberg lift, which even allows a panoramic view. This funicular was built back in 1894 and pulls families up from the valley station in no time at all with a 61% incline. In addition, various hiking trails lead up the Schlossberg, turning the former castle hill into a local recreation area.
