Graz clock tower

The Graz Clock Tower is the landmark of Graz and probably dates back to the 13th century. The Graz Clock Tower is located on a hill in the heart of the city centre, the Schlossberg. According to tradition, the tower served as part of a former fortification, which is no longer preserved today.

City park

The Graz City Park was designed in 1869 as a nature park in the style of an English garden, with the main focus being on exotic trees. In the 20th century, the park was expanded into an open-air gallery of Styrian cultural history, and the city park is therefore home to numerous busts of famous historical figures. Today the city park invites you to jog, read and linger. There are also specially laid out cycle paths and the "Forum-Stadtpark", which is known for numerous cultural events and exhibitions.

Mur Island

The island in the Mur is a floating platform and was designed to create a landmark for the city as part of the Graz Cultural Capital Year 2003. The Graz-based Robert Punkenhofer developed the idea for a spectacular object in the Mur, which was realized by the New York artist and designer Vito Acconci. The 50m long shell form houses an amphitheatre and offers space for up to 350 visitors. The "cathedral" designed there houses an island café and a children's playground.

Karl-Franzens-University Graz

The University of Graz consists of 6 faculties and is considered the second oldest university in Austria, founded in 1585. The name of the university is derived from Archduke Karl II of Inner Austria and Emperor Franz I of Austria. In addition to the Medical Faculty of Graz, which was spun off in March 2003, the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz accommodates 32,230 students. Well-known personalities of the University of Graz include Nikola Tesla and Erwin Schrödinger. Today, Graz is considered a student city and is known for its wide range of educational opportunities.

Art house Graz

The Kusthaus Graz was built as part of the Cultural Capital Year 2003 and is also known as an architectural landmark of the city of Graz. The building is distinguished above all by its unusual form, which is also called "friendly alien". The Kunsthaus Graz was developed as an institution for the organisation of international exhibitions of multidisciplinary, modern and contemporary art from the 1960s to the present.
